American Queen Voyages will offer the longest trips in the line’s history in 2023, with two 23-day river itineraries on the Mississippi and Ohio aboard the 123-stateroom American Countess. “The ship will sail more than 1,700 miles from Minnesota down the Ohio River and Upper Mississippi River, calling on more ports and offering more guided tours than ever before,” as T+L reported in August. Virgin Voyages is relatively new to the cruising game, but that doesn’t mean that the line is lacking in any way. The line’s unique, adults-only cruising experience is one you won’t find anywhere else, with its party-esque atmosphere alongside a high level of luxury. Just like all four of the Virgin Voyages ships, Resilient Lady will offer the adults-only environment infused with fitness, music and party-esque amenities that the cruise line is known for. Carnival Cruise Line will continue its move toward bigger ships in 2023 with the unveiling of Carnival Jubilee — the third vessel in its new Excel-class series.

The 922-passenger Explora I is the debut ship of Explora Journeys, an all-new luxury cruise line owned by MSC Group, the Geneva-based shipping container giant that also owns MSC Cruises. On a ship that’s big by luxury standards, guests will stay in oceanfront suites, penthouses, or residences, lounge around four pools, and choose from 18 food and beverage options. Unusual activities and entertainment examples will include music master classes and a monthly full-moon party. The ship debuts in northern Europe in July, with five sister ships scheduled to join it by 2029. Other planned features include more than 27,000 square feet of outdoor deck space, four pools and nine restaurants. Like many of the cruise ships we’re looking forward to in 2023, Explora I pays close attention to new cruising technology and eco-friendly designs.

Many ships on the 2023 order book have been under construction, and there are some exciting new vessels coming this year. Silver Nova will also be the line's first ship to have a pool on the side of the ship, as opposed to being enclosed.
Arriving in early 2023, Swan Hellenic’s SH Diana is the largest ship to ever join the fleet. A polar-class vessel featuring a Polar Class 6 ice-strengthened hull, she offers 5 Star accommodation for just 192 guests in 96 staterooms and suites. SS Diana is equipped with two comfortable tenders instead of Zodiacs for expedition landings. Norwegian Cruise Line has proved it’s the clear leader when it comes to solo travelers.
